Engaging potential NEET students: a project based approach

We all know that reaching every student is something that can be very challenging. Ensuring that all students have a destination post-16 or 18 is one of the real tangible accountability measures that a Careers Leader/School has. Everyone aims for a zero NEET figure but not everyone is able to achieve it.

We have provided a project outline to target those hard to reach students or the ones that can be identified as being most at risk of becoming NEET. We should say that this is just an idea and it doesn’t claim to be the silver bullet that people are after. The project was run practically at a school and the reflections of the Careers Leader have been included.

The project works by involving multiple external organisations:

  • Local Authority
  • Public Service
  • LMI Business – small, large and from different sectors
  • Further Education
  • Higher Education

We would love to hear your thoughts on the project – is it something that you could implement at your school next year? What elements would you change or must be kept? Does the project lend itself well for virtual delivery? As always, please post your comments either below or through out social shares.
