Why Benchmark 3 could be the most important benchmark

The aim of any careers programme should be to create provision that is tailored to fit the needs of each individual student. It might not be possible to create a wholly bespoke programme but we should make it easier for each student to have a programme that feels as much about them as individuals as it does about their peers. If they don’t feel involved then they don’t have ownership – this is why getting benchmark 3 right might just be the key to the success to your whole strategy.

Steering Group – Update

As we enter Phase Two of the network we have made some significant changes to how we operate. Those changes have seen a restructure to the steering group and the staggered introduction of our franchise network model. The restructure of the steering group allows us to broaden our reach in supporting Careers professionals. We found that by focusing solely on Secondary careers education we weren’t lacked the scope to draw important lines to the wider world of careers. Statutory guidance for careers education – a thread

We know it’s a little late but we don’t seen any harm with us reposting our response to the announced changes to the statutory guidance for careers education here. They were released towards the end of the 2020-21 where they may have been missed by some. There isn’t anything major in here and with the changes at the DfE we may see further changes in the future. However, these are the ones we’re working with now, so please find our highlights on this page.

World Class School’s Symposium – Event Resources

On the 1st July we were asked to deliver two sessions for the LinkedIn partnered 2021 World Class School’s virtual symposium. Comprised of Secondary and Primary schools we discussed what world class Careers provision looked like. Hosted by Sandringham School in St Alban’s we presented ARRC contributed content to attendees and fielded questions from related to the information presented. It was a great way to spend the morning.

The Importance of Careers Leadership: embedding provision, delivering impact

The impact of COVID-19 on young people shouldn’t be understated; it will be several years before we fully understand the effects. What we do know is that young people need the help and support of Careers educators now more than ever before. They need us in understanding ever changing job markets and new recruitment practices as well as revisiting the universal skills that are still required to have successful careers. Outstanding leadership remains the constant factor in embedding this provision and delivering impact.

The Skills Builder Partnership is offering schools and colleges the opportunity to apply for a fully funded place on their flagship education programme. ‘The Accelerator’ is a capacity-building programme designed to support long term provision of essential skills education. Careers Assemblies – Kingsbury Green Academy (CCC)

Turning Careers Assemblies Week virtual at Kingsbury Green Academy has some huge positives. Instead of students choosing one assembly to attend, they can now watch all 23 assemblies should they wish – and so can their families and all our staff! They can now learn about more than one industry and they can increase their knowledge further about LMI. Hopefully they will also be motivated and feel inspired by more than one role model.

(University of) Cambridge Stonehouse Residential 2021 (CCC)

This Trinity College Cambridge programme is for groups of students who will be in Year 11 for the 2021/22 academic year (currently in Year 10) and an accompanying teacher from their school. Please read this page carefully before making an application. Complete the application form before the deadline to apply for the Stonehouse Residential is midday on Friday 4th June 2021. Late applications will not be accepted.

(University of) Cambridge Low Participation Neighbourhood Summer School (CCC)

Each year Christ’s, Sidney Sussex and Murray Edwards Colleges at the University of Cambridge collaborate to run the Low Participation Neighbourhood (LPN) Summer School. This is a two year programme that commences in August of Year 11 with a summer school, continues with a programme of online support throughout Year 12 and culminates in a second summer school in August of Year 12. The summer schools usually take place in person, but will be online in 2021.
